St. Paul Elementary Community School (SPECS) is located in the St. Paul Town Site hosting approximately 375 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Its 24 fte teaching staff provides a comprehensive education program which includes: Religious education, Cree language education, Alternate French education, a PUF program which includes Speech and Occupational Therapy, Special Education programs which include Speech and Occupational Therapy, a full time counseling program over and above the regular curricular requirements required by Alberta Education. As 26% of our student population are First Nation Metis and Inuit (FNMI) students, SPECS also provides students with culture awareness programs throughout the school through the native liaison program. 30% of SPECS students are enrolled in the Alternate French program. Realizing that there are increasing numbers of families choosing the Alternate French programs has resulted in more challenging student learner needs in those classrooms. Alternate French teachers have responded by cooperatively working on the development and implementation of a (French) Remediation Plus program specific to our French language students. We are also very fortunate to be able to offer a full time French Kindergarten program.
