Principal's Message

Hello. Tansi. Bonjour.  Welcome to École Élémentaire/St.Paul Elementary School.  SPECS is a dual track Catholic School offering both English and French Immersion from Kindergarten to Grade 5.  Cree and French As a Second Language classes are also offered.   We share a space with the St.Paul Friends of  Playschool . Our community of learners is comprised of approximately 345 students, a dedicated and caring staff and involved parents and a supportive community.  Together, we work to ensure the success of all of our students.

Student responsibility and nurturing respect are ongoing goals. In order to encourage students to be kind, cooperative citizens and to maintain safe and caring school, we are focussing on being “Bucket Fillers”.  We are highlighting and promoting self-control, empathy and conscience in our students so that they may fill the buckets of others!  We want our students to develop effective habits and ‘Dare to Care’ about others through our bullying awareness message.

Improving student learning continues to be a focus at our school.  Our staff is continuously working to improve instruction in the classroom.  This year our focus is in formative assessment whereby teachers use feedback to inform and adjust their practise and improve student learning.

Literacy is important in our school.  Using programs such as Remediation Plus and Accelerated Reader, we want to encourage students to become enthusiastic readers and writers by developing their phonetic knowledge, comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Technology as a teaching tool is another area of learning at SPECS.  Teachers are learning to integrate it in the classroom.  Our classrooms have wireless internet access.  There are shared carts of laptop computers and each room is equipped with a Smartboard and document camera.

Cooperation between staff, students and the parent community is so important.  SPECS Parent Council works with the school to guide, support, and help improve life chances for our students and provides many opportunities for parent involvement. This dedicated group works behind the scenes to provide such things as hot lunches, organize the milk program and fundraise to provide extracurricular programming.

We invite you to visit our school and be a part of the learning that happens every day!
